Many of the world’s violin players have visited Shetland to meet Kenny Johnson and see first hand, Skyinbow. They play Skyinbow’s violins and perform ‘at home’ in the heartland of fiddle music. Although Skyinbow is based in the far northern hemisphere, it is international in its perspective, frequently touring the world to meet new Skyinbow players. These artists come from all corners of the world playing all types of music. Skyinbow violins are used in shows, folk/celtic, country,   jazz, rock/pop and classical genres.

Mairead and Cora

Mairead Nesbitt – An All-Ireland champion who has worked extensively as a solo and session musician with various artists including Sharon Shannon, Clannad, Emmylou Harris, Van Morrison & Donal Lunney and features prominently in the original ‘Lord of the Dance’ show (Pro+)

Cora Smyth – Another all-Ireland champion with a family background in traditional Irish music. Has performed with a number of artists such as The Waterboys, Brendan O’Regan, Vinnie Kilduff, MACNAS and Sean Smyth. Most recently Cora played fiddle solo in Brendan Graham’s Eurovision winning song ‘The Voice’ in Oslo in 1996. Features alongside Mairead Nesbitt on the original ‘Lord of the Dance’ show. (Pro+)

Marco Polo

Maire Breatnach – One of Ireland’s top players with numerous awards and scholarships to her name. She has recorded with top artists including U2, The Chieftains, Sinead O’Connor and Sting and was the fiddle soloist on the original ‘Riverdance – The Show’. She has toured and recorded extensively, and has contributed to various soundtracks in both film and television. (Pro+T 5-String)

Mairin Fahy – Presently performing in ‘Riverdance – The New Show’ and a member of the talented band ‘Reel Time’. (Pro+T)

FOLK / CELTIC

Sharon Shannon – One of Irelands finest recording artists who has played on numerous compilations and has 3 solo CD’s to date. Was part of the band ‘The Waterboys’ and has recently recorded with Kirsty McColl and Winnie Horan. (Pro+T)

Winnie Horan – Fiddler in States, Celtic band ‘Soulas’, and has recently been on tour and recorded with Sharon Shannon. (Pro+T)

Charlie McKerron – Charlie is a stalwart of Scottish traditional music and member of the Celtic superband, ‘Capercaillie’. (Pro Active)

John Hardy – Top Scottish player and member of the band ‘Old Blind Dogs’. (S1)

Ron Kerr – Ron is one of Scotland’s leading traditional violinists and uses his Pro+ very effectively on the Scottish Country Dance scene. (Pro+)

Leonard Scollay – Celtic / Rock fiddle player who has been extensively recording and touring with ‘Rock, Salt and Nails’. He is now performing with Shetlands’ premier band in the Celtic/Rock genre, ‘Bongshang’. (S1 T)

Rickie Simpkins – Top Nashville session player who plays with the ‘Tony Rice Unit’ and Vince Gill. (S1)

Tim O’Brian – Tim is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter of unlimited talent. He has recently written two of top country star Kathy Mattea’s biggest hits and in 1994 he was named Male Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Association. (S1)

Charlie Austin – Regular performer at the Grand Ole Opry in the 1980’s with Jack Green, Jean Shepherd and Jack Russell. He later became resident fiddle player with Boxcar Willie at his theatre in Branson, Missouri. He has also performed with stars such as Larry Gatlin, Charlie Pride, David Allen Coe, Randy Travis and Ricky Van Shelton to name a few. He is now resident in Nashville. (S1)

Gary Mackey – Features on Dolly Parton’s latest CD and is also resident fiddle player in Dolly’s theatre in Tennessee (Dollywood). (S1T 5-string)

Jenny Napier – Jenny is one of Shetland's leading lights, currently studying music at Aberdeen University. She can be seen regularly performing with the ‘Sheila Henderson Band’ who are fast becoming one of the UK’s top country acts. (S1T)

Stefano Tavernesse – One of Italy’s finest jazz players. (Pro+T)

Zipflow Reinhardt – Zipflow is a very high profile jazz and swing player from central Europe. (Pro+T 5-string)
